it’s finished…no really
well, we finally worked out the rest of the music for The Suburban Seven. it was a hard thing to swallow, but since we couldn’t get Andrew Bird to allow the use of two of his songs, we had to axe them from the movie. instead, we are using one song from Daphne Loves Derby that was already in the movie (although in a much less recognizable location) and music from Big Smith, who i love and want to support anyway. and the funny thing is…after making the replacements, i think i like the movie better this way. the songs we had to replace were the violin section in the "mafia" scene, and the song beginning day 3. the net effect is a little lighter mood in "mafia" and one kick-ass song on day 3. so i’m happy. and the movie is now finished. well, as finished as it’s going to be until someone wants to buy it and we do new credits or whatever (or someone points out something i totally missed and i say "riiiight…let me get right on that").
musicians! i will get you a dvd asap! i’m getting ready to go on a location shoot for a bit, so i’m pressed for time, but now that the movie’s done, we’ll get you your copy!

Which Big Smith song did you use?

I used “Go Away Maggie” in the mafia scene, the very beginning riff of “Ponce De Leon” to get into that same scene. It gives it a totally different feel#–a little lighter, a little less angsty.
