One Life to Live: Fire!

Today I worked on One Life to Live, or, rather, I was scheduled to work on One Life to Live#–in reality I did little more than show up, get into costume, and then stand around and wait for several hours. This would be in the normal range of things, for the average shoot, but today was a little more unusual: because today, the OLTL studios were evacuated because of an electrical fire.

When I showed up on set about 11:35 (early, as I always do) I got into costume and began reading a book I brought along (Graham Greene’s The Tenth Man). Just when I started thinking a soda might taste good (I’d been sitting for about 45 minutes), the lights in the building began to flicker and dim. The studio monitor showed the lights on set flickering as well, and the security personnel began running around to find out what the problem was. It was actually a little confusing, because one of the security guys last name is Coleman#–so every time they radioed for “Coleman” I would immediately jerk my head around because I was worried they were calling for me (late or something).

Rapunzel 2005

Rapunzel 2005 - Holland Taylor

So I did it…I finally broke down and got a Flickr account so I can be as cool as the rest of the blog world. Well, that and offload some of the hosting power to someone else.

Holland finished up her run of Rapunzel at the Manhattan Children’s Theatre this weekend. This photo is from the final performance.

Valid!

After an EXTRAORDINARILY long night…this blog is now valid XHTML 1.0 and CSS. What does that mean? Well, if you’re a fellow geek, it means that you can pat me on the back for being ultra-cool. If you’re not a fellow geek, then…well…it means you’re reading a pretty boring post. But notice the new logos on the lower right? That means I’m official…

I also fixed the category list drop-down so that it actually works. Isn’t that novel? The drop-down displays the number of posts in each category, as well as the date of the last entry.

Soap Attack!

Right now I am focusing my attention on auditioning for the NY based soaps. I’m not going to stop doing other things, but I’m really trying to break into the medium. I’m going to be doing background on One Life to Live (the first step in getting a speaking role) next week. Today I interviewed with Darlene Failla and her associate Jill for Guiding Light, and tonight I am auditioning for Kate Martineau of As the World Turns. (EDIT: Audition rescheduled for June 2nd) If you have ever tried to keep track of the happenings on even one soap, you know how intricate and complicated the plots can be. Now try getting up to date on half a dozen. Yeah…riiiiiight…

Darlene was awesome, outlining the intense work routine of GL and answering a lot of questions I had about how things work behind the scenes. I’ve taken a class from Rob Decina, another casting director, but he didn’t really get into the mechanics of it all. I have a lot of respect for the performers and technicians that clomp through a daily schedule like the one Darlene described!

Good Question

In a recent post comment, Oz asked:

How come you don’t have a “C” name?

That’s a good question!

My family’s names:

Lynsey
Casey
Carey (brother)
Brandy
Debby (mother)
Leslie (step-father)
Emmett (father)

So the real question is, "why don’t I have a name ending in an "ee" sound?"

There are two versions of my name’s origin: my dad claims I am named after some of his relatives (Nicholas, Joe). My mother claims that I am named after the little kid on the TV show "Eight Is Enough". After reviewing the evidence, I’m going with my mom on this one.

This is me as a kid:

This is the kid from "Eight is Enough":

What do you think?
