Do I Look 6 Foot 2?

So I got the best commercial audition the other day…

Most of the time, in order to land an audition, an actor (or his agent) has to submit a photo and resume to a casting director. This usually happens after the actor (or his agent) has seen a breakdown (description) of the role, and decides he’s right for the part. If the casting director agrees, the actor gets a phonecall (there are other ways to get an audition, but none I’d tell my mother about).

So I got the best commercial audition the other day…

I get a call from a casting director I’ve never met, and there is an audition set for me to attend. It’s a bit short notice (next day), but that’s not uncommon, especially with commercials. The sides (audition script) are emailed to me, and when I read them, I start to get a bit uneasy. It’s for the Brawny Man.

The Pilot Audition

So yeah, I just got back from Chicago… I auditioned for a new sitcom for CBS, and read for one of the series leads. It was a great experience, the casting people loved me, but ultimately I’m not the right type for the part. Could be worse! They could think I sucked!

Rob Decina (head casting director for Guiding Light) teaches in his auditioning class that the most you can hope to do in an audition is make a good impression, and show potential. Anything beyond that is totally out of your control. And I feel I did just that! I made a good impression, and I think I showed potential… hopefully building a little bit of a relationship with the casting directors I met at the audition.

Greetings from Chicago!

When things happen, they happen fast… my St. Louis agency (Talent Plus) called me on Friday with a pilot audition in Chicago… so here I am, two days later in Chicago, preparing for the audition. It’s a crazy, crazy life. Luckily, I have friends here who can put up with me for a few days while I go through the process. I don’t want to give too many details right now, but it’s a fun project, and hopefully I can go in and have a fun audition.

Wish me luck!

Tourguide

My sister Lynsey, her friend Kim, and my mom are all in town this week visiting the Big Apple. We started the trip with a full day#–up in the morning for breakfast at the SoHo Grill in Astoria, then off to church at Riverside Church, a quick coffee and dessert at Cafe Lalo on the Upper West Side, then photos in Central Park. We walked from the 79th Street entrance near the Dela Corte Theater all the way through the Bramble, past the Dairy, and out at Columbus Circle and Time Warner Center. Phew! We ordered pizza from Papa John’s while we were still on the train and met the delivery guy at the apartment… just in time to catch Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Yes, a long day… but so much fun!

And in sharp contrast to the folks back home in Missouri… apparently last night saw a lot of tornado activity in Nixa, and I’ve heard that some of my friends have lost their homes. I don’t know a lot of details yet, and it makes it hard to concentrate at work. I hope everyone is well…

Suburban Seven: “Show Me” Screening

The Suburban Seven, the film I co-wrote and directed, will be screening in Springfield, MO on March 3rd at 3:30pm as part of the Show Me Missouri Film Festival. Tickets should be bought in advance, although they may also be available at the screening (I would check out the website). I won’t be able to make the screening, but I hear some of the cast will be attending… and I love the cast!
