Apparently I’m a Spokesperson

I just found out that a blog post I made some time ago is being used as an online advertisement.
I’m not sure how that happened, but okaaaay…
This was a really trying week. I can’t even begin to explain. Here are some images of Queens from the last few days sans electricity (and with a lot of fires, confusion, paranoia, and uncomfortable and irritable people).
And here are photos from just today, on just my block.
I would have taken more (and better) photos, but I didn’t have anything but my cameraphone to take them with (my camera needed charging, and, well… clearly that wasn’t going to happen).
It’s after midnight on Sunday… that marks exactly one week since the power problems began here in my neighborhood. Nice.
Instead we are without power since Sunday, just trying to stay out of the heat.
Tonight I watched my friend Nikki perform in a show for the 52nd Street Project which pairs children with artists to encourage creativity.
So the blackout isn’t affecting 2,000 people#–it’s affecting closer to 100,000 people. Whoops!
I found out today that unless you’ve called Con Edison to report power loss, they don’t even know you’re having a problem. Oh. Great. So you couldn’t tell my power is out, even though you have an NYPD Command center three doors down and the Red Cross handing out emergency supplies at the end of the block? You really need me to call you and let you know? And how exactly was I supposed to know I needed to do that? Oh. Wait. You made an announcement on the radio. The one I can’t listen to without power#–thanks a million.
Apparently, Con Edison made its estimates of residents without power only based on who called to complain. And I don’t know why the press keeps saying it went out on Monday. It didn’t. It went out on SUNDAY.
Not that I’m bitter.
Or miss my AC.
Sorry things have been a bit quiet the last few days… there’s been no power in my neighborhood now for about a week. Yup. It’s bad. The Red Cross has been delivering water and ice, and there are distribution stations to help people beat the heat. Then today we got the worst rain I’ve ever experienced. I’m writing this post from work (so it’s going to be brief), but I’ll be back soon. When the other 5 plagues pass…
I’m not kidding. I really am. Or was. For a day. I’ve been working on a Vanessa Williams movie and they didn’t have anyone to stand in for Eartha Kitt. Since I was there, they used me (although I had to squat a bit to be the right height).
I’m thinking about putting that on my resume… don’t know many 20-something males with that experience…
I hope everyone had a good 4th of July (those in the US)#–I took some great photos of the fireworks here in New York. This weekend I have to work at TVI#–we’re starting the kid’s summer camp today, so I’m out the door in a few minutes to go set it up. I really do not like working on the weekend…
