This weekend I shot a short film called "Eat Me". The plot is a little hard to explain, as you kind of have to see it to understand it… needless to say, it’s high concept.
The crew was GREAT:
Anya Meksin, Writer & Producer
Aaron Walker, Director
Rashi deStefano, Assistant Director
Ian Bloom, Director of Photography
Andy Parker, Assistant Camera
Aaron Schuelke, Grip
Andrea Ciganek, Hair & Makeup
Jesse Millward, Grip
Zubin Jelveh, General Awesome Dude
Alex Goldberg, Grip
Jeremy Craig, Gaffer
Anthony (aT) Thompson, Sound
Julie Buck, Props
And the actress playing opposite me, Sarah Kozinn, was incredible… she’s going places, so keep an eye out.
Here’s a link to photos from the shoot…
The Suburban Seven, the film I co-wrote and directed, will be screening in Springfield, MO on March 3rd at 3:30pm as part of the Show Me Missouri Film Festival. Tickets should be bought in advance, although they may also be available at the screening (I would check out the website). I won’t be able to make the screening, but I hear some of the cast will be attending… and I love the cast!
I usually pride myself on being un-struck by celebrity#–I’ve worked with celebrities on projects, met them at functions and occassions, and I’ve never had a freak-out moment when I’ve met one. You know, the slack-jawed jabbering crazy-man with a too-tight handshake persona that most people take on when faced with a human being normally encountered only through the television or on the movie screen.
Well, today I was that guy.
The movie that really got me turned on to indy filmmaking is the movie Swingers, and once I learned about what it took to get the movie made, how it was made, and the lengths that the director went to get everything just right, I loved it even more. That movie’s director went on to create some of my favorite projects (Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) as a helmer, and additional amazing works as a producer. His name is Doug Liman, and today I ran into him on the Upper East Side.
As I ate breakfast this morning, perusing the news outlets, I started to make a list of the movies I want to see soon: movies like Good Night and Good Luck, Capote, and Shopgirl. And when I told my girlfriend that I wanted to see them, I didn’t stop there. Oh no. I told her I want to see them in the theater and support them with my box office dollars.
See, I’m afraid that if I don’t see them in the theater (and contribute to their box office take) then my "vote" doesn’t count in getting more movies like these made.
Are we really at that point? Do our dollars spent at movie houses really mimic votes in an election of content? I don’t know. But they might just.

I went to a free screening of the IFCFilms movie The Edukators on Monday#–a German film about dissolute twentysomethings who take out their frustrations by breaking into rich people’s houses and rearranging their belongings. It was enjoyable, although a little slow in the middle. The film seems to have been shot digitally, so it’s not a pretty film by any means. The strength lies in it’s earnestness and well-drawn characters. The actors are all top-notch, and the score is mostly alt-rock faves, European and American. If you like art-house movies, you’ll probably enjoy this one, but if you’re a multi-plex goer you might find yourself a little bored.
In other news… I’ll be doing Guiding Light again next week, and also One Life to Live. I’m doing background on all the NY based soaps pretty regularly now, so hopefully I’ll move up to speaking roles soon. It’s sometimes easy to forget how much I’ve accomplished by being able to say "I received a paycheck this week as an actor". Most actors can’t say that… so even the small work I’m doing now is something in which I take pride. By joining the Unions I’ve said goodbye to juicy roles for a little while as I work my way up the ladder.
